What Is A Blog?
A what?… A “blog”? What does that even mean? So… You’re telling me that I am going to become a “blogger” and “blog” in the “blogosphere”? Will I advance to the next level of “bloggerdome”? This whole concept was originally overwhelming and extremely confusing. However, I now know that a blog is simply “a website, usually maintained by an individual, with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video.” Sounds manageable… Sort of.
I’ve never really had a problem speaking, as you can probably tell. I was raised in Portland, Oregon in a little area called Multnomah Village. Now, if any of you know, we are widely known for promoting creative and well-spoken behavior. ‘The Village’ welcomes all types of people and accepts everyone who’s willing to stand up for their beliefs. There’s so many aspects of life that intrigue me and I often find myself becoming overwhelmed by our world. Keeping a journal is one way I have helped gather these scattered thoughts (this is one reason why blogging may work well for me.)
I created this page for my Mass Media and Society class (J201). Our Professor is using a modern method to help us approach our modern society. You can’t learn the most up-to-date politics in an old textbook, so why not blog? This is an excellent way for students to force themselves to take a stand. It is so sad when people voluntarily sit themselves out (whether it be in voting, discussion or even just having an opinion.) I’m so excited for the upcoming debates and elections. They will not only inspire me to become a more active citizen, but also help my “blogger juices” flow.
We have assigned topics that I will be covering once a week as my assignments. Nevertheless, I have a lot of spirit and voice to capture and I hope that this will enable me to concentrate them all into some stimulating entries. ‘The Sleeping Mind’ will be a forum for my thoughts on politics, the environment, human nature, school… Anything! Now, I’m sure some of you may have no interest in some of these subjects, so feel free to browse. My assignments will be titled separately so you can find them easier.
The journeys your mind can take you are captivating. Using your voice can bring endless opportunities. I invite you all to read, comment and participate in your own voice. Wish me luck on this “bloggerific” voyage and here goes nothing!

P.S.– I may have some posts just with my photos (I am really into photography.) So, feel free to browse those as well!
